The wedding season is fast approaching; I know because wedding invitations have already started dropping through the letterbox. This got me thinking about what I can wear and although it may seem pretty straight forward I’ve found it quite a challenge. There's so much more to it than simply picking a pretty dress. You can't wear anything too low cut or short and white is a massive faux pas. Then you need to think about the style of wedding; is it formal or casual, outdoors or sit down?
With a little help from Phase Eight I have come across some on trend styles that would be perfect guest looks for attending weddings this summer.
The 'Fit and Flare' Dress
One of my favourite looks that was big in 2012 and has drifted in to 2013 is the fit and flare style. Last year skater skirts appeared everywhere and this has been updated for the wedding circuit by translating the structure for dresses. This is a very flattering and feminine look perfect for curves. Pulling in at the waist and flaring out to hide your hips it has been a style staple for several seasons. Update yours for a wedding with pretty prints and bold colours. Adding a belt or bow will add definition and if you want to add even more flare, you can add a tulle underlay.
The Wrap Dress
Wrap dresses have never been out of style thanks to the likes of Diane Von Furstenberg the queen of the wrap dress. They're perfect for weddings as you can dress them down for the ceremony and then add accessories to take you through to the evening.
The style is super comfortable to wear yet accentuates your assets. The ruching around the middle keeps you cinched in and adds interesting detailing. My only advice would be to avoid too low a cut for a wedding and if you are nervous about coming undone, opt for a fixed wrap dress like this purple beauty.
The Bodycon Dress
As a curvy girl I tend to avoid bodycon’s because I don't think they work great for my figure. Turns out it all depends on the fabric! Go for dresses using a thicker fabric with built in side panelling, pleating or large, bold patterns. They show off your gorgeous curves while keeping any problem areas hidden away, perfect.
The Full Length Dress
When looking into trends for 2013 I came across an old staple, the maxi dress. This gorgeous style is perfect for anyone with curves due to the flowing fabric and again cinched in waist. The fabric pulls in at the smallest part of your body and then gently skims your hips leaving you with a stylish and sexy silhouette. It also effortlessly moves from a day to night look.
